Film review website ranks movies on wokeness: 'We’ll let you know if it’s Worth it or Woke'

Worth It Or Woke is quick to point out the difference between progressivism and what makes a film ‘woke’, the latter being seen as "forced radical messaging and artificially setting said messaging’s primacy over that of the narrative”.

In its mission statement, the site declares: “The Oscars suck. The critics’ scores suck. Guess no more. We’ll let you know if it’s Worth it or Woke.”

The website told GB News: "At Worth it or Woke, we strive to offer film lovers a critical platform that transcends contemporary radical progressivism and Leftist activism.

"We aim to foster a rekindling of the magic of cinema in the hopes that filmmakers will once again ignite audiences' imaginations and whisk us away to realms of captivating mystery and promising futures, free from the distractions of virtue signaling."

Carrick told Rolling Stone: “The disparity between critic and audience scores, as well as relentless accusations of bias by conservative readers, highlights the flaws in the [Rotten Tomatoes] system.

“Mirroring the ‘wokeism’ that increasingly permeates the work of filmmakers, many critics artificially reward activism over quality.

“Consider that films will no longer be eligible for Academy Awards if they fail to meet race, ethnic, gender, and sexual orientation quotas.”

The site hopes that viewers will then be able to decide whether the level of wokeness would be “distractingly high, tolerable, or not there at all”.

The site has recently given Sound of Freedom (2022), a faith-based indie film, a rating of 97/100 with a 100 per cent non-wokeness rating.

On the other end of the spectrum, Disney's new animation Elemental and film The Little Mermaid both received non-wokeness of just 10 per cent.

Unapologetic in its intention, the site declares: “We have decided that our religious conservative voice needs to be heard.”

The site lays out some of the giveaways that viewers at home can look out for when assessing film wokeness.

The handy checklist includes: “The forced celebration of behaviour that, until 30 minutes ago, was deemed to be immoral, unethical, or the province of the profoundly mentally disturbed, and treating those who do not participate in said celebration as bigots.”

Viewers are told to look out for women being written as “snarky prats who are better and smarter than every male in the film,” and “retconning strong male characters in their own sequels and reboots” to pave the way for strong female characters.

On the more outlandish end of the frowned upon themes, the site references “Disney’s not so secret gay agenda” and the “caricaturing” of capitalist and religious society as “straw men” for false radical progressive narratives.

Finally, the site takes issue with “manufactured diversity quotas for the sake of diversity over narrative.”

Providing his definition of woke top Rolling Stone, Carrick said: “The quality of ultra/radical-progressivism, characterised by the active eschewing of objective truth as well as traditions and societal mores that have been tried and tested for generations in lieu of nonsensical beliefs that defy logic and substantive supportive objective data.”
